Dog-friendly stays compared
Dog policies for places to stay vary more than for pubs: some take dogs in every room, some only on the ground floor, and fees range from nothing to a nightly charge. Here is what each place publishes, side by side.
| Place | Where dogs can stay | Dog fee | How many dogs | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kip & Nook Near Darlington | Every place to stay takes dogs: the Cabin, the Container, Baby Bro and The Barn (sleeps 8). The Workshop restaurant is also dog friendly. | A pet surcharge may apply | Not published | |
| Rose & Crown Romaldkirk | Dogs welcome to stay; the rooms with small patios are the ones recommended for dogs. Clean dogs on leads are welcome in the bar. | Not published | Not published | Patio rooms recommended for dogs. Clean dogs on leads welcome in the bar |
| High Force Hotel Forest-in-Teesdale | Pet-friendly rooms at £10 per stay. Mention your dog when booking and there'll be treats in the room. | £10 per stay | Not published | Yes, if you mention your dog when booking |
| Middleton Cottages Yarm | Every cottage except The Granary takes pets. Ask about numbers and fees when you book. | Not published | One dog per cottage (2021 guide) | |
| Gisborough Hall Guisborough | Dogs can stay in the ground-floor bedrooms. Tell them in advance and there may be treats waiting. | Not published | Not published | Sometimes, if you tell them in advance |
"Not published" means the place doesn't say. Ask when you book, and get the answer in writing if it matters.
Pubs with rooms: ask about dogs
These inns let dogs into the bar or garden and also have bedrooms. They don't publish a policy for dogs in the rooms, so ask first.
